In this skill set you will gain the skills and knowledge required to assess the significance of objects in collections, you will also learn about handling and interpreting cultural material together with cataloguing collections for future access.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, if possible prior study or workplace experience would be an advantage. Participants who have completed 158-57001V02 Gallery and Museum Skills would greatly benefit by completing this Skill Set.

Subsidised fee

This training is subsidised by the NSW Government under Smart and Skilled.

To be eligible for the Smart and Skilled subsidised fee you must be an Australian or NZ citizen, permanent resident or humanitarian visa holder. You must also be over 15, no longer at school, and live or work in NSW. See our Smart and Skilled page for full details.

Full fee

If you are not eligible for subsidised training, you can still choose to enrol in the course but will need to pay the full (non-subsidised) fee.

If you are granted recognition of prior learning or credit transfer for one or more units in this qualification, your student fee will be reduced.

Course related charges

GOVERNMENT-SUBSIDISED SHORT COURSE - We are pleased to offer this free course to help you to start your career or upgrade your existing skills and knowledge. For additional information please contact Tony McDonald on 131 674. Students who complete this dynamic free course can transition into BSB40211 Certificate IV in Library & Information Services at MBK. Students that have completed the Certificate IV in Library & Information Services in previous years have gained employment at Artbank, International Art Services, Museum of Contemporary Art, Lloyds Auctioneers, local museums, Mosman Regional Gallery & Historic Houses Trust, amongst others. Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30am-4:30pm

This course has face to face classes for 12 hours/ week for 9 weeks.  You can expect to do at least 4 hours /week of additional self-directed study, which may include research, written, online and/or workplace activity.
