Wine and Beverage Skills

Qualification: Statement of Attainment
Description: This course will help you improve your customer service skills and knowledge in terms of the local wine industry. It replaces the Statement of Attainment in Wine Studies.

The course will suit people from a range of industry sectors, including those working in hotels, bottle shops, liquor stores or specialist wine outlets; wine company representatives, specialist wine waiters or managers; wine buyers and purchasing managers.

The course provides you an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in the wine and beverage service area without having to enrol in a major training program.

Australian and international wine knowledge is covered, along with wine production, wine service, sensory evaluation, wine and food matching and viticulture.

Australian wine regions and industry knowledge are key components of this course. Additonal topics include developing wine lists, ordering and stock control and sales and marketing of wine. Students will also be given the opportunity to complete the WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) International Wines & Spirits – Intermediate Course. (Additional costs will apply, with detailed information available at enrolment).

Duration: 1 Year - 7 hours per week (Two evenings per week)
2 Years - 3.5 hours per week (One evening per week)

Students are also encouraged to join the Australian Sommeliers Association at the commencement of the course. A number of events are arranged in conjunction with the Association during the year as well as other events that will benefit the students in their studies.
