Borrowing

What you can borrow

You may have up to 15 items out on your record.

This includes :

Books

2 week loan

Magazines/journals

2 week loan

Videos (limit of 2)

1 day or 1 week loan

Closed reserve 2 hours in library
DVDs (limit of 2) 1 week loan
Music CDs (limit of 2) 1 week loan

You need to be a member of the student association to borrow DVDs and music CDs.

Reference material, current magazines and some videos are not for loan.

Renewals

You may renew items up to 2 times on or before the due date as long as no one has placed a hold on the items. You can renew by phone, in person or online. To renew online, you need to go to the TAFE catalogue http://tafecat.tafensw.edu.au/tafecat.html. You will need to use the barcode number on your TAFEcard and a pin number. Please ask the library staff for your pin number.

Reserving items

If any item you want is out on loan, you can reserve it in person or by phoning the library. You will be contacted when the item is available.

Returning items

Return chutes are located both inside and outside the library so that items may be returned during college opening hours.

Items must be returned or renewed on or before the due date. Items should be returned to the library from which they were borrowed.

Failure to return items may result in fines.

You must replace or pay for any items you lose or damage.

Fines

Fines are charged for overdue library material. You will be posted two notices of warning before you incur a fine. You will be suspended from borrowing and your testamur may be blocked until you return all outstanding items and pay any fines incurred.

Special reserve collection

This is a collection of items in high demand including teachers' own material. The collection is located at the loans desk. You can borrow items to use in the library but you cannot take them home.

 

Facilities

Computers and Internet

Crows Nest College Library has 29 computers for student use. These have free access to the Internet and Microsoft Office. Microsoft Project is available on 2 computers. Please book with library staff if you wish to use this program.

Scanners

There is one scanner available. Please check with library staff if you wish to use the scanner.

Printing & photocopying

Printing and photocopying is available in the library for students.

The photocopier/printer is operated by TAFEcard.

There is a discount for college association members using this service.

Seminar rooms

Study rooms are available for groups of 2 or more students. Bookings for rooms can be made in person or by phone. Your TAFEcard is required when taking up your booking.

Equipment

The library can provide light projectors, laptops, DVD/VCR players, cd/mp3 player for students to use in the library or within the college. To use any of this equipment outside the library students will need to arrange for their teacher to borrow the equipment.

 

Services

Inter library loans

Items not held at this library may be obtained from other TAFE NSW libraries. Requests must be made for course related material only. Please allow 7-10 days for requested items to be available for collection.

Information skills

The library conducts orientation tours for new and returning students. These class tours provide an overview of the services and facilities provided by the library and basic instruction on the use of the library catalogue tailored to the study area of each tour group.

To assist you with your research and assignments, library staff can provide group or individual education on the Internet and various online subscription databases.
