Subject specialisation

The Library specialises in supporting the Higher School Certificate subjects. This material covers these areas

Special reserve collections

At certain times of the year material in heavy demand may be placed in a special reserve collection. This material is for in Library use only.

Borrowing

Borrowing period

  • Books 2 weeks
  • Magazines 2 weeks
  • Class Videos/DVDs 2 Weeks or 1 day
  • Music CD's 2 Weeks

Reference, closed reserve and special collection material may not be removed from the Library. Textbooks may only be borrowed by students locally attending courses.

Renewals

Items on loan may be renewed up to two times providing they are not in demand.

Reserve

A reserve request may be placed on material currently on loan.

Inter Library Loans

Material held elsewhere in TAFE NSW Libraries Network can be sent, upon request, to the Library. Requested items must be course related.

Returning material

A returns chute is located in the library front desk. Bradfield can not accept returns of items from other TAFE libraries.

Overdue, lost or damaged library material

Overdue items may incur fines and the suspension of borrowing rights. It is the responsibility of the borrower to replace or reimburse the Library for items which are lost or damaged. Failure to do so may result in the withholding of results and certificates as well as entry to TAFE or university courses.

Information desk

  • Finding information to assist with assignments
  • Comprehensive searching of the Internet and online databases
  • Assistance with the use of computing software such as Microsoft Word
  • Lending of books, serials, videos, textbooks and closed reserve material
  • Renewal of items on loan
  • Requesting use of study rooms

Information literacy

The Library can provide training in research skills for groups or individuals. This training can be tailored to specific subject areas and includes online and library catalogue searching skills, sources of information and the evaluation of those sources.

Binding

The Library provides a limited binding service for major assignments of ten or more pages. Assignments left for binding at the Library front desk will be available the next day. Patrons are expected to supply their own binding material which can be acquired from the Student Association (for members only).

Computers and the Internet

Bradfield Senior College Library has 15 computers for student use. Each has Internet access and Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and the Access database programs.

Use of these computers is restricted to Bradfield students who have personalised logon access.

Hot spot - wireless laptop access

Bradfield students who own laptops with wireless network hardware can arrange to be granted access to the Library's wireless network. This would allow the use of the Internet and access to personal drives.

Multimedia

Certain computers have specialist software and hardware available for student use. These include -

  • Photoshop - image editing
  • InDesign - compose images/documents for publishing
  • Dreamweaver - create web pages
  • Macromedia Flash - create web based programs/presentations

Hardware

  • Image scanner
  • FireWire port (for digital video cameras)
  • DVD burner (for work only)

Printing and photocopying

Black and white printing and photocopy is available in the library for students. Please enquire for costs.

Seminar rooms

Study rooms are available for students. The rooms are equipped with video/DVD players and whiteboards. To access the study rooms present your TAFEcard at the library front desk. Preference is given to students sitting exams or major assessment tasks.

Equipment

Teachers can organise with library staff for the use of equipment by students within the College. Equipment available includes -

  • Portable stereo radio/cassette/CD decks DVD players
  • Cassette voice recorders
  • Flatscreen DVD players
  • Laptops and light projectors
  • Digital video and image cameras

Staff may borrow equipment for use outside the college after completing an Equipment Movement Authorisation Form 27B.
