TAFE English Language Centre, TAFE NSW - Northern Sydney Institute

The TAFE English Language Centre (TELC), at TAFE NSW - Northern Sydney Institute is a specialist ELICOS centre for international students who wish to study English in Sydney.

Students come to TELC to develop the English language skills that they need to live and study in Australia.

Who we are

TAFE NSW is owned by the New South Wales Government and has over 100 years experience delivering quality programs to local and international students. The quality of our English language programs is guaranteed by TAFE NSW.

TELC courses are delivered at:

Crows Nest College - a vibrant, busy and successful college just north of Sydney Harbour.

Meadowbank College - study our Certificate IV in English for Academic Purposes beside the picturesque Parramatta River.

Ryde College - our English for Hospitality students study at the same location as internationally renowned Hospitality school Le Cordon Bleu. Our highly qualified staff works closely with Le Cordon Bleu Sydney in preparation for direct entry to Le Cordon Bleu or TAFE Hospitality courses.

Our English language teachers are highly committed, skilled and very knowledgeable about their area of expertise.  They are also very supportive of students throughout their English language course.

At TELC we care about your language training. We understand that everybody learns in different ways. Our teachers focus on the individual needs of the student and offer a warm and personalised approach.

When can I study at TELC?

TELC caters for everybody including individual travellers, groups, study tours, and business training.

imageEnglish classes are offered 50 weeks of the year and start every 5 weeks. Following enrolment, new students can start classes any Monday.

Depending on your ability and needs, classes run for 5 – 50 weeks, or more if you want. Students must be 15 years and over.

Pathways to university and a career

Employers in many industries have a high opinion of TAFE NSW qualifications. When you have completed your course you will have gained a nationally recognised qualification in Australia which may put you at an advantage when looking for employment in your chosen industry overseas.

iamgeOur advanced diplomas and diplomas are also recognised by Australian universities for advanced entry into related degree programs (up to two years credit).

Many of our students are university graduates who come to NSI to gain advanced technical and practical training in their fields.

Graduates from the TAFE English Language Centre, Northern Sydney Institute are guaranteed a place in a TAFE NSW Advanced Diploma, Diploma or Certificate course (as long as the academic entry requirements for the course are met). NSI offers over 600 courses to 50,000 local and international students each year.

Degree pathways

TAFE NSW graduates may gain credit at university for previous TAFE study in specific course areas so you don’t have to repeat work you have already done. This may be possible through particular arrangements with some Australian universities.
