Description

The Associate Degree of Accounting is a two year paraprofessional degree that will prepare you for employment in the accounting profession in Australia.

The Associate Degree of Accounting will allow you to develop both practical skills and comprehensive knowledge to equip you for work in the accounting profession. You will develop knowledge and skills in accounting, tax, finance, statistics, marketing and law as they apply to the accounting profession as well as the broader Australian business environment. In second year you will undertake an industry internship which will provide you with the opportunity to synthesise and apply your learning in a real workplace situation, as well as establishing valuable professional contacts.

The Associate Degree of Accounting is designed as a two year full time or four year part time course.

This course is suitable for:
- School leavers;
- Graduates of Certificate IV or higher level qualifications in accounting / bookkeeping / financial services;
- Mature aged students seeking to retrain or change careers.

Credit transfer is offered for identified units from the Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma qualifications in Accounting or Financial Services (Accounting) and the Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or Financial Services
(Bookkeeping).

Entry requirements

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants are required to hold, at minimum, one of the following to be considered eligible for admission.
- a NSW HSC (Higher School Certificate) or equivalent.
- a recognised Tertiary Preparation Certificate;
- a qualification from a Registered Training Organisation at Certificate IV level or above;
- the completion of at least one year full-time or equivalent in a degree course at a higher education institution.

Additional Requirements:
In addition to the minimum eligibility requirements the following specific entry requirements apply to entry to this program. All applicants are required to:
- submit a 500 word essay, and
- attend an interview and complete a short numeracy test.

Special Admissions:
If you do not meet the minimum eligibility requirements for this course, you may be able to apply for entry into this course based on mature age or disadvantage. Talk to admissions staff at the campus you wish to study at if you wish to apply for special admission.

International Applicants:
In addition to proof of eligibility and course specific entry requirements, international student applicants whose first language is not English or who have not completed their secondary education in English or who have not completed an Australian educational qualification must demonstrate English proficiency at a minimum IELTS level of 6.5, with a minimum level of 6 in any one band.

This course is for people who want to work in the accounting profession as an assistant accountant, bookkeeper, payroll manager or accounts supervisor.

Course Units
Information Session Dates: Wednesday 14 June 2017 or Tuesday 18 July 2017 at 7.00pm, Location: Meadowbank Campus P Building Level 4. Orientation date: 19th July This course has face to face classes. Each subject has 4 hours class work. An additional 6 hours of self-directed study should ne undertaken for each subject. Self-directed study may include: research, writing, online and/or workplace activity. Full-Time (Day): Two years,18 hours per week Part-Time: Four years: 8 -10 hours per week, with an expectation that students will also complete an additional 10 hours per week of independent study.
