Description

Work as an early childhood educator in a centre-based service or family day care. This level of educator is responsible for planning, implementing and managing programs in early childhood education and care services in accordance with legislative requirements and is often responsible for the supervision of others. You will gain skills and knowledge in how to use a national learning framework, regulations and quality standards to support the education and care of children from birth to school age.

Workers in this role may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff. Students who are required to complete a work placement in child-related work may be required to complete more by visiting: http://www.kids.nsw.gov.au/ Students on work placement will be required to comply with a TAFE Student Code of Conduct and demonstrate their work place readiness. If you are seeking to enrol in a First Aid unit of competency you are advised that to complete the unit you must be able to perform basic life support skills, for example perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Graduates of the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care can continue their studies to complete a Bachelor of Education (Birth - Five Years). This degree, offered in partnership with Charles Sturt University, is delivered over two years (or longer if part-time) at Crows Nest Campus.

TAFE NSW fee

When you enrol, you will need to pay a TAFE NSW fee, unless you qualify for a fee exemption or fee concession. The 2014 TAFE NSW annual fee for this course is $1,514 annual fee or $757 for enrolments of one semester or less. For information regarding fees for non NSW residents/employees, apprenticeships and traineeships, fee exemptions and other fee concessions, please see Fees & financial assistance. Cash is not accepted.

Prospective students under 17 years of age who have not completed Year 10 or equivalent should go to the early school leavers page or contact their school. Prospective TVET students should contact their school regarding enrolling in this course.

Course related charges

$65 Course related charges cover the cost of supplementary services such as practice materials, learning resources and industry visits. Please speak with your teacher about alternatives.

Future study options:

The qualification contains units of competency which are common to other sectors. You will gain credit for these units if you choose to enrol in CHC qualifications for other sectors in community services Training Package. When you finish this course, you will be eligible to apply for entry into the TAFE NSW Higher Education course Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Care (Birth-5). When you finish this course you may apply for advanced standing at universities offering early childhood courses.

Course location

This is for students wanting leadership roles in Childrens services. There is practical assessment requirements in approved services for each Semester. A NSW Working with Children Check is required to participate in this course.

Important dates

On 24 October 2013 at 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm an Information Session, Assessment / Testing will be held at Crows Nest College, room 1.26.

Skills check will be a requirement once registered for the course.

Skills gap training will be offered to gain full credit for Certificate three Units. There are compulsory workplace hours attached to this course which is organised by TAFE in an accredited Early education Service. You may be required to have a current NSW working with children check for some services.

Length 2 Years, 8 hours per week
This course is designed for people working 20 hours per week or more in an accredited childrens service. Written evidence of this must be supplied by your employer. All work place assessments are done in your own workplace . Written permission to do this must be supplied to TAFE Section .
Entry requirements FIrst class is Tuesday evening February 4th at 6pm-9pm then every second Saturday. Skills gap training will be offered for those transitioning from 18208 to 25281.
