Applying and enrolling

Steps to follow to enrol in an NSI course

NSI has different ways of enrolling, depending on the course and the student.

For all other 2012 Semester Two enrolments... follow the steps below

Step 1 Step 2 Step 3
RPL

Step 1 Check the course requirements

Many NSI courses have specific entry requirements. These are qualifications, skills, knowledge, experience and/or minimum age you must have before you can enrol. Entry requirements are included in the course details.

Some courses also require you to attend an interview, submit a portfolio, sit for a test, take part in an audition and/or attend a compulsory pre-enrolment information session. Check the course details under your chosen location or call 131 674 to find out more.

Some students may be required to provide additional information and documents, for example:

Step 2 Check if you need to apply

For most TAFE NSW courses you do not need to apply before enrolling. But for some courses, usually the more popular ones, you will need to submit an application and be accepted before you can enrol.

If your course does not require an application, go to Step 3

If your course does require an application, you must deliver or mail a completed TAFE NSW Course Application Form (PDF, 424KB) to the college of your first preference by the application closing date.

Late applications are considered if places are available. Application forms are also available from any NSI college or call 131 674 for a form to be sent to you.

NSI uses the information given on the form (about previous experience and training and/or career aspirations) to consider each applicant and select students in a fair and consistent way. It's important that you fill out your application form carefully to give yourself the best chance of success.

If you change your mind about your preferences you can submit an Application Amendment Form (PDF, 47KB).

Successful applicants will be notified by mail about how and when to enrol.

Step 3 Enrol

Enrol online

For selected courses you will be able to enrol online before the enrolment days. Completing your enrolment online will secure your place and you will not need to attend the college in person on enrolment days / information sessions. Look under your chosen course and location for an Enrol now button.

Register your interest

For some courses you will be able to ‘register your interest’ online. Registering your interest for a course is not an enrolment.

When you register, you will be provided with confirmation of your registration and notified of further enrolment/selection procedures and payment instructions. Your enrolment will be complete when you have paid the TAFE NSW fee (or you have qualified for an exemption).

Look under your chosen course and location for a Register now button.

Enrol in person

If online enrolment is not available for your course, or you do not wish to enrol online, you will need to enrol in person on an enrolment day. Simply go to the college offering the course on Wednesday, 27June between midday and 7pm, fill out an enrolment form and pay the TAFE NSW fee (or qualify for an exemption).

Remember, courses that allow online enrolment may fill up before the enrolment day. To avoid disappointment you are encouraged to enrol online for the courses that have this option.

Get your skills recognised!

You may be eligible for recognition of previous study, work or life experience that is relevant to your course. Your existing skills and experience can be assessed and credited towards the course in which you are enrolling. This means you will not need to relearn what you already know and will be able to finish your qualification in a shorter time.

There is a check box on your enrolment form to request that any previous TAFE NSW study, relevant to your course, is automatically added to your record.

If you wish to apply for recognition for any other study or experience you may have, speak to a customer service officer or your teacher at enrolment, or as soon possible after class begins, so that you can start the recognition process.

For more information, visit our Recognition of prior learning and experience page.
