NursingNew Products

In response to the need to provide specialist training for Enrolled Nurses in Dialysis in NSW, Northern Sydney Institute joined forces with Fresenius Medical Care (FMC) to develop the Advanced Diploma in Renal Dialysis. The Diploma comprises a blend of college and workplace delivery and assessment. NSI and FMC will jointly deliver the qualification in 2007, in a pilot program with South West Area Health Service. Celebrating a twenty-five year association between Manly Art Gallery and Museum and Northern Beaches College, fine arts, digital arts and design students showcased their talents just as their contemporaries did when the prestigious partnership first started in 1981. NSI is committed to meeting the diverse needs of learners and industry by offering flexible, innovative approaches to learning and teaching. In 2006 this was achieved by trialling and using new technologies while capitalising on the strengths of existing approaches; assessing how new technologies improve and enhance the way we teach, learn and assess; building and expanding staff awareness and capability in technology solutions. The Institute continued discussions with Macquarie University to provide pathways for students in a range of subject areas, including IT, business services, sport and recreation, hospitality and children’s services. More...

TAFE Delivered Vocational Education and Training (TVET)

Northern Sydney Institute continued to experience strong demand for TVET programs with 2,607 enrolments in 2006, an increase of 7.9% over 2005. The increase can be attributed to the development of strong networks and relationships with local schools and the willingness of colleges to deliver courses, through servicing arrangements, where there is demand. Northern Sydney Institute has been successful in forging partnerships with industry as part of its strategy to grow the business and enhance professional development opportunities for its staff. Contestable Government-funded Training

NSI continued to conduct the successful Language, Literacy and Numeracy Program (LLNP) under a new three-year contract, which started in July 2006. The Program seeks to improve the skills of clients referred by Centrelink and Job Network members and help them secure employment or pursue further education. Under the new contract, clients can access assessment and training at Hornsby, Meadowbank, North Sydney and Northern Beaches colleges in partnership with the NSW Adult Migrant Education Services (AMES). The Institute has pursued a strategy of building relationships through the establishment of industry reference groups with key stakeholders from various emerging industries. More...

International Relationships

In 2006, Northern Sydney Institute increased the number of its partner colleges in China to a total of 12. Northern Sydney Institute further expanded its business operations in China, successfully negotiating agreements with Beijing College of Politics and Law and the Tianjin Medical College of the Tianjin Medical University. Exploratory visits and discussions also took place with a range of educational institutions in Beijing, Tianjin, Xi’An, Zhengzhou, Chongqing, Wuxi, Suzhou and Shanghai. More...

Promotional Initiatives

Throughout 2006, NSI sponsored a selection of industry events, including the Innovation Lecture and Exposition (Sydney and Melbourne), Tourism Training Australia’s National Conference, and the Institute was co-NSW sponsor at the 2006 Pearcey Foundation Award. More...
